The film follows the crew of the Indian submarine S21, led by Captain Rann Vijay Singh (Kay Kay Menon), Lieutenant Arjun Verma (Rana Daggubati) and Officer Devraj (Atul Kulkarni), who are sent on a secret mission to track down and destroy the Pakistani submarine Ghazi, which is planning to attack the Indian aircraft carrier INS Vikrant. The film depicts the underwater battle between the two submarines and the courage and patriotism of the Indian navy officers.

What's Good

  • The film is India's first underwater war film and tries to decode the mystery behind the sinking of PNS Ghazi, which has been less glorified in our textbooks.

  • The film has a gripping plot and keeps the audience on the edge of their seats with its thrilling action sequences and suspenseful moments.

  • The film has a realistic and authentic portrayal of the submarine operations and the technical aspects of the naval warfare.

  • The film has a stellar cast and impressive performances from Rana Daggubati, Kay Kay Menon, Atul Kulkarni and Taapsee Pannu. Rana Daggubati plays the role of a calm and composed officer who takes charge of the situation when things go wrong. Kay Kay Menon plays the role of a hot-headed and aggressive captain who does not shy away from a war. Atul Kulkarni plays the role of a peacemaker who tries to balance between the two. Taapsee Pannu plays the role of a Bangladeshi refugee who gets rescued by the Indian submarine.

  • The film has a patriotic tone and pays tribute to the unsung heroes of the Indian navy who sacrificed their lives for the nation.

What's Bad

  • The film has some cinematic liberties and dramatization that may not appeal to everyone. For example, the film shows a child refugee on board the Indian submarine, which is unlikely to happen in reality.

  • The film has some glitches in the plot and some loopholes in the logic. For example, the film does not explain how the Pakistani submarine got past the Indian naval blockade or how it detected the Indian submarine without sonar.

  • The film has some over-the-top dialogues and jingoism that may seem cheesy or cliched to some viewers. For example, Kay Kay Menon's character says "We are not here to die, we are here to kill" or "We are not fighting for ourselves, we are fighting for our country".

Verdict

The Ghazi Attack is an interesting and engaging war film that tells a story untold. It is a must-watch for those who have a liking for war films and patriotic films. It is also a tribute to the brave navy officers who fought for our country. The film has received positive reviews from critics and audiences alike and has been praised for its direction, script, cinematography, music, editing and performances.
